I had the privilege of engaging in a sound bath led by Dr. Maja Jurisic a few weeks ago. While I am familiar with sound therapy and signing bowls, I have not had the opportunity to personally engage in a formal experience. The session began by Dr.Maja explaining the different bowls, the differences in the types of crystals, the tones they deliver and why sound therapy is valuable for health and well-being. She prepared my mind and body (sitting comfortably, relaxed posture, closed eyes) through a meditative dialogue, and then she took me on a journey of sound with the bowls. The experience was much needed, and I found myself feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated to go into my day and my work with a stronger and more positive mindset. The experience came at a time when I was taking on a large initiative and at the same time preparing for a speaking event that brought additional anxiety to how I was feeling, so the sound therapy could not have come at a better time to help reduce those unnecessary self-created feelings. In fact, the experience was so positive that I promptly found crystal bowl sound therapy on iTunes, and I periodically listen to it when I feel in a state of angst or stress and want to calm my mind and body. Dr. Maja has a real gift both in how she communicates and guides a meditative process, as well as her ability to bring in her creativity and love of music with the bowls to encourage relaxation and a mindset of healing and wellbeing.
